Due to its role as a cultural stakeholder, the Ali Zaoua Foundation uses The Stars of Sidi Moumen Cultural Centre to encourage the artistic creativity of Moroccan youth in all areas (theatre, music, dance, visual art, audio-visual art, etc.) by:
- Making work and rehearsal spaces available for young groups (from Sidi Moumen or elsewhere)
- Providing technical and organizational support for the artistic, cultural and social projects of the district’s youth
- Providing professional expertise in implementing and managing cultural and artistic projects
- Linking young talent with professionals or structures that will be able to guide, welcome or host them
In the long run, the Ali Zaoua Foundation aims to initiate new artistic projects by providing talents in the Sidi Moumen district with financial support, through creation and production scholarships.
This is also why the Foundation dedicates a space for artists in residence to host creative talents – Moroccan or foreign – for stays of artistic creation. This will also allow to initiate encounters with the district’s youth, either during work time organised as master classes or via discussions / debates when the residency work is presented.
Even before the official opening, the Centre had the opportunity to host two French silkscreen printing artists in residence / workshops, from April 15-17, 2014. During this residency, the two artists, Stéphanie Delpuch and François Joseph Debacker, were able to continue their research and production of a silkscreen-printed book about their trip in Morocco (for 3 months, through several cities). At the same time, residents conducted a series of workshops initiating young people as well as people with more visual art experience in silkscreen techniques on paper and textiles.
